Police registered two first information reports: one for theft on the complaint of the villagers, and one for murder and rioting on the complaint of one victim's father.[1][2] Four men, including the owner of the buffaloes, were arrested and booked under Indian Penal Code sections on murder and rioting.[3][1] The superintendent of police said police treated it as a case of theft and not of cow vigilantism.[2] No report of a trial outcome was found.
