On the afternoon of 3 May, residents blocked the Jabalpur–Nagpur national highway, and the blockade ended in the evening after three of the accused named in the first information report were arrested.[1][2] By 4 May police had arrested nine people, and Superintendent of Police Kumar Prateek said a case of murder and rioting had been registered against six of them.[3] By 7 May the number arrested had risen to 14; the accused denied any association with an organisation.[4]
