Sub-divisional police officer Sona Charan Jamatia of Teliamura said police had learned that the three men had stolen cattle from an area in Khowai district. Police registered a case of mob lynching against unknown persons at Kalyanpur police station and a cattle theft case at Champahour police station. No arrests had been made in the days immediately after the killings.[1][2]
