The lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq took place on the night of 28 September 2015 in Bisada village, in the Dadri area of Uttar Pradesh, when a mob dragged the 52-year-old man from his home and beat him to death after a local announcement that a cow had been slaughtered.[1][2] His son Danish was seriously injured.[3] The trial of the accused began in a fast-track court in 2021, and in December 2025 the court rejected an application by the state government to withdraw the prosecution.[2][4]
